An infant male chimpanzee from Senegal who was left orphaned when his mother died of a snake bite in 2012 will be transferred this week to the Centre de Conservation pour Chimpanzes in neighboring Guinea. Nicknamed “Toto,” the chimpanzee was rescued by researchers from the Fongoli Savanna Chimpanzee Project, who provided round-the-clock care for 2 years until a permanent sanctuary could be found.
