Surgeons from Toronto’s Scarborough Hospital were called in this week to the Toronto (Canada) Zoo to operate on a female Western Lowland gorilla who had developed a large tumor on her left leg. Josephine, 45, who was captured from the wild as an infant in 1971 and produced 5 offspring (including Johari, pictured here), is expected to make a full recovery.
